FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 20, 2013; Andover, MA
As part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and decrease environmental footprints, Yankee Alliance membership is committed to selecting and purchasing products that are manufactured with sustainability in mind.
On behalf of its membership Yankee Alliance announced today its recognition from BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a global medical technology company, for the avoidance of more than 422 metric tons of greenhouse gas emission over the last four years. This savings, equivalent to not using 982 barrels of oil, was achieved by Yankee Alliance membership’s purchase of BD U.S.-manufactured syringes, needles and catheters which are manufactured at facilities using 100 percent renewable electricity.
Craig Shoukimas, VP, Contracting said “Our members are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and have programs in place to decrease their own environmental footprints. It’s great that in choosing competitively priced and high quality BD products our members decrease their supply costs and further contribute to greenhouse emissions reduction.”
The BD products Yankee Alliance purchased include: BD 1, 3, 5, 10 mL syringes, assorted BD Needles, BD PosiFlush™ Pre-filled Syringes, BD Autoguard™ Shielded IV Catheters, BD Nexiva™ Closed IV Catheter Systems and BD Q-Syte™Luer Access Split Septums.
“We are pleased to present a BD Green Appreciation Certificate to Yankee Alliance for its support in avoiding greenhouse gas emissions by selecting BD products that are manufactured at locations using renewable electricity,” said Ranjeet Banerjee, Vice President & General Manager, BD Medical – Medical Surgical Systems. “At BD, we are committed to continually improving our manufacturing practices so we’re able to minimize our overall impact on the environment while producing high-quality products for our customers.”
The BD Green Appreciation Certificate is in its inaugural year and will be an annual certificate presented to BD customers who, through their procurement of certain BD syringes, needles and catheters produced in facilities using 100 percent renewable electricity, are helping reduce our overall environmental footprint.
