FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 29, 2012; Andover, MA

In January 2012 Arnot Health – Elmira, NY kicked off a new value analysis process with the goal to improve its efficiency and effectiveness as part of the effort to provide quality care in the most cost effective manner possible. The kick off was the culmination of several months of consulting by Yankee Alliance. Yankee Alliance had provided an assessment of the Arnot Health’s current process, offered improvement recommendations and continues to work with system staff to implement improvements using the new structure and process.

The first 5 months after project inception has resulted in savings of $440,000.

Completed savings projects include contrast media, radiopharmaceutical distribution, vena cava filters, topical wound sealant and linen. Based upon documented savings in the first five months and additional projects underway, the system expects to achieve savings in excess of $1 million in year one of this initiative.

“Yankee Alliance has helped us revitalize our value analysis program,” says Richard N. Hoffman, PhD, MHA, FACHE, Vice President, Operations. He continues, “The Yankee Alliance team has exceeded our expectations.”

To achieve this, Yankee Alliance interviewed staff, reviewed policies & procedures and recommended improvements to Arnot Health’s value analysis structure and process. Yankee staff then began actively participating in the system’s value analysis process, bringing improvement opportunities forward and assisting with implementation of those opportunities.
